Unani Day 2021 was observed by holding a Virtual Seminar on the 13th of February, 2021 on “Unani Perspective in the Prevention and Management of Psychiatric Disorders”.
The focus of the International Webinar was basically to highlight the role of Unani System of Medicine in the prevailing situation of COVID-19 where many persons were suffering from Psychiatric Disorders. Due to the Covid-19 situation worldwide, there is a demand for AYUSH products and a good opportunity for the Unani industry to strengthen its base globally.
An effort was made in the webinar on the potential of Unani System of Medicine in dealing with psychiatric disorders.

Dr Mohd. Khalid, Assistant Drugs Controller (Unani) and Licensing Authority (Unani) in the Directorate of AYUSH, Govt. of NCT of Delhi gave the Introductory Remarks.
Prof Kunwar M Yusuf Amin gave his presentation on “The Unique Unani Method of Targeting Drugs to Mind”. Prof. KMY Amin is a medical pharmacologist (MBBS, MD [Pharmacology]) & Professor in Pharmacology teaching Modern Pharmacology and Research Methods in the Faculty of Unani Medicine of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) to MD (Unani) students for the last 28 years and supervised Experimental & Clinical Pharmacological research on Unani Drugs in more than 50 MD (Unani), PhD & Post-Doctoral Projects in AMU, Hamdard University, New Delhi, National Institute of Unani Medicine, Bangalore etc.
Hakim M Salim Khan from UK gave his presentation on “Depression – A Unani Approach”. Hakim M Salim Khan is the Director of Mohsin Health Clinic and Products, England, UK. He is also the Principal of College of Medicine and Healing Arts, UK.
Prof Rashid Bhikha gave his presentation on “The Importance of Temperament and Management in the Prevention and Management of Psychiatric Disorders”. Prof Rashid Bhikha is the founder and director of Ibn Sina Institue of Tibb, Soth Africa. Prof Bhikha began his career as a pharmacist in 1969.
Dr Claudia Preckel from Germany gave her presentation on – “Neurasthenia, Unani & Medical Tourism: The Case of Prince Obaidullah of Bhopal”. Dr Claudia obtained her M.A.in Oriental Studies from the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany in 1997 with a study on the Begums of Bhopal.
Prof Syeda Aamena Naaz gave her presentation on “Psychiatric Disorders of Females and their Management according to Unani Scholars in Present Scenario”. Prof Syeda Aamena Naaz is a Former Chairperson in the Deptt. of Amraz-e-Niswan wa Atfal Faculty of Unani Medicine, A.M.U, Aligarh.
Prof. Abdul Wadud gave his expert comments and views on the Webinar. Prof Abdul Wadud is presently working as the Director, National Institute of Unani Medicine, Bangaluru (under the Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India).
Dr DC Katoch also gave his expert comments and views. Dr DC Katoch is the former Adviser (Ayurveda) and Head of Drugs Control & Pharmacopoiea Commission in Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India.
Last but not the least Prof Asim Ali Khan gave his expert comments and views. Prof Asim Ali Khan is the Director General of Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India.
Dr Younis Iftekhar Munshi gave the Vote of Thanks. Dr Munshi is a Scientist-4 & Head, Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine, CCRUM, Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India. He is also Coordinator, Pharmaco-vigilance Center (Unani), Kolkata, Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India.
In the Seminar, there was online presence of delegates from UK, Germany, South Africa, USA, UAE, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh besides India.
During the Webinar the formation of Bangladesh Chapter of World Unani Foundation was announced.
